Website Development

James Cassell and Daniel Friedel are currently working on the web site for Mountain View's National Honor Society. It is being written in XHTML, CSS, and PHP; the site will use semantic markup. An attempt to develop a fully-functional site without the use of Javascript is underway.

James Cassell is doing the bulk of the coding while Daniel Friedel is in charge of the graphics. A maintenance manual is also being written so that future generations will be able to maintain the site. James has posted a preliminary draft of the maintenance manual on his site. To help in this effort, all of the code is being fully commented.

Update: 8 February 2007

The site is now live. The Contact Form is now active and functional. If you want a page put up for your project, you can use the contact form or email James Cassell or Daneil Friedel, and a page can be set up.

Update: 14 May 2007

The site is being regularly updated with any information that comes in via school announcements, the NHS Group Fusion page, e-mails received, and even the Contact Form (despite the fact that no one is known to have used it to date).

New technology that is "in the works" includes the ability to update the site from a web-based interface. The reason for this is that James Cassell, who has done most of the coding and maintaining of the site to this point, will be attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute next year, and will not be able to continue to maintain the site. A working prototype of this technology should be available within the next week.
